Kat was featured in the British Arena Magazine in their March issue of this year, just before the magazine went out of business. Good job including Kat in one of their last issues. ;) She looks really good in them, in any case.

While Lindsay, Paris, Britney and co have been bar-hopping and shopping with gay and gusset-free abandon, the defiantly clean-living Kat Dennings has been busy eschewing the paparazzi life in favour of building a career.

And it’s beginning to pay off. The 22-year-old has been dubbed everything from the new Ellen Page to the indie-Angelina since the recent US release of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, the teenage rom-com in which she co-stars with current ‘it boy’ Michael Cera.

Dennings served her apprenticeship with guest stars on your CSIs, Sex And The Citys and ERs, before making a splash as the grouchy daughter in The 40-Year-Old Virgin and the nerdy would-be hottie in The House Bunny. “With The House Bunny the colours and the wigs and everything were so hilarious and unreal that it gave me the freedom to be a nut,” she says.

It’s certainly something she enjoyed, because normally the Pennsylvania-born actress revels in bucking the trends of her contemporaries: not only does she boast curves where others have bones, but she recommends the work of novelist Haruki Murakami and prefers alt-rockers Bloc Party to Hollywood parties.

That said, she has just discovered the joys of poker nights. “I just played my first poker game with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jennie Garth and I got four aces — now my poker name is ‘Four Ace Dennings’,” she enthuses. She’s also newly single, describing her traditional man-of-choice as being “the very brooding, Jared Leto-type of handsome, musiciany actor pretty boy skinnier-than-me thing”. But after three years with Ira David (brother of Evan Rachel) Wood, and nother two with Criminal Minds star Matthew Gray Gubler, the actress is ready for a change. “Dating someone skinnier than me? Lame,” she says.” I met Eddie Izzard at his birthday party and almost died–he was funny, and gorgeous, too. It was the best moment of my life. All the best guys are taken: Eddie Izzard, David Bowie…”

In the meantime, Dennings has written a script with her brother (she’s the youngest of five home-schooled siblings) that’s in the hands of producers, and recently signed on to co-star with Woody Harrelson in superhero-with-a-twist movie Defendor. Her role? An ironic one for Hollywood’s new non-drinking, non-smoking poster girl.

“I play a teenage prostitute who’s addicted to crack,” she laughs. “I’ve been thinking about how I’m going to get into that. I think I’m going to watch Requiem For A Dream over and over. I have no field experience and I’m not going to start smoking the drugs now.”
